The covid pandemic has accelerated the shift towards remote work and virtual interactions, providing many of us with a taste of what it's like to live, work and play in a digital dimension. This is a mere glimpse of the opportunities and new ways of existing in alternative dimensions that will coexist with our physical world.
Several factors are driving the convergence of our physical and digital lives, including advancements in gaming, social media, and web3 technologies, as well as investments in infrastructure development such as networks and hardware devices. Additionally, people’s social nature and desire to make new friends and explore niche interests contributes to the convergence. The trend is further reinforced by significant investments from major technology companies worldwide.
The idea of one fully immersive digital world, commonly referred to as "The Metaverse," has been a popular concept in science fiction for many years. However, many of these portrayals in literature and film depict a dystopian future where the metaverse is characterized by an oppressive, unappealing atmosphere, such as in the Matrix, Wall-E or the OASIS in Ready Player One. These imagined future worlds often depict humans as passive, unhappy digital inhabitants.
At Skyfall, we envision another future.
We believe in a future where physical and digital experiences merge, creating immersive virtual worlds that connect diverse communities and offer a wide range of opportunities and experiences. These worlds will enable new forms of socializing, learning, and commerce, leading to new fields and new job opportunities. We see this convergence as a game changer for humanity, helping us to grow and innovate as a society.
At Skyfall, we are passionate about software startups in a range of fields and across the technology stack. We're particularly excited about infrastructure and tools for building virtual worlds and objects (e.g. to be used for social and entertaining purposes), extended reality platforms for industrial and corporate applications (e.g. digital twins or collaboration), and public solutions (within e.g. education and healthcare). Additionally, we believe that blockchain technology and web3 will play a critical role in the future of digital payments and asset ownership.
